Port de Valldemossa, late summer in the mountains

If you’re heading to Port de Valldemossa at the end of August, I’d definitely stay until sunset.

Even the drive down is quite an adventure – for me, even a little more so than the drive to Port des Canonge. The road gets pretty narrow in places, and when you meet a car coming the other way, things can get interesting. 😉

Once we got down there, we headed to the pebble beach first so Lilly could have a bit of a run around.

There were noticeably more people on the left-hand side, where the little boats also go into the water. It still wasn’t crowded though, and the atmosphere was really pleasant.

You can easily get into the sea from there. There’s a small ladder and the spot is somewhat sheltered from the waves. You can also paddle straight out to sea from here on a SUP, with this incredible mountain scenery in the background. It looks pretty cool – I definitely need to give that a go myself.

This time, though, we decided to take things a little slower, had a glass of wine at Restaurant Es Port de Valldemossa and waited for sunset. And at the end of August, it’s definitely worth waiting for.

At this time of year, the sun sets directly out over the sea in front of the cove. With the mountains in the background, it looks absolutely beautiful.

In fact, almost everyone who was still there seemed to be waiting for exactly that moment. Things gradually became quieter and, when the sun finally disappeared completely into the sea, a few Mallorcans even started clapping, haha.

For me, Port de Valldemossa is a really cool spot to visit, especially towards the end of August. An adventurous drive down, mountains right by the sea and a really relaxed atmosphere in the evening.
