Deià & Sa Foradada – from the mountain village to sunset
Deià and Sa Foradada work pretty well as a combination, especially if you want to stay until sunset.
The drive to Deià is already part of the trip for me. You get beautiful views of the sea and mountains along the way. Parking there can be pretty difficult though, especially in summer. It’s not much easier around Sa Foradada either. If you don’t fancy that hassle, there’s also a bus from Palma.
You get the best views over the village and the mountains from the **cemetery** at the very top. There are two paths up, one passing to the right of the chapel and the other to the left. I always take the left-hand path with Lilly – I simply prefer it.
Deià is also often referred to as an “artists’ village”. To be honest, you won’t find quite as much art here as you might expect from the name. I can definitely imagine the relaxed atmosphere, especially in winter, being a pretty good source of inspiration though.
What I do find pretty cool are the little bars, cafés and restaurants. Some of them look quite unassuming from the road. But once you go inside, you suddenly discover beautiful terraces overlooking the mountains or little patios with palm trees and bird of paradise plants.
If you fancy a swim as well, it’s also worth making a little detour to Cala Deià.
As Deià sits quite low between the mountains, it gets shaded relatively quickly in the late afternoon. And that’s exactly why I think combining Deià and Sa Foradada works so well.
Sa Foradada sits right by the cliffs, making it a perfect place for sunset. You’ll never have the place to yourself though, haha. Still, it’s a lovely spot to round off the evening.
That’s why I think Deià and Sa Foradada make such a great combination – first the mountain village, then the sea and finally the sunset.
